"Bridge Bowl V: Revenge of the Bobcats"

The Bluffton High School football team has not only never won a Bridge Bowl against archrival Hilton Head Island High School, the Bobcats have been badly outscored by the Seahawks in the four games.

This year, the Bobcats are out to avenge their futility, while locking up a coveted home playoff game...all at their cross-river rivals' expense.

AND THE WINNER IS...

C.J. JOHNSON

Heads were down, tears were flowing. Something needed to be said after the Bobcats saw their unblemished record vanquished at nine weeks. C.J. Johnson had those inspiring words in the post-game huddle. Johnson's leadership - as well as his two rushing touchdowns, including arguably the biggest TD in BHS history at :35.8 left to play - spurred Bluffton to the near upset victory over Berkeley. Said the senior running back and this week's BT Game Ball winner:

"I love my team."

Despite a frenetic finish, Bluffton's comeback bid comes up short as Berkeley claims Class 3A-7 title Friday night at Bluffton Stadium.

The Bluffton quarterback threw for 215 yards and a school-record four touchdown passes as the Bobcats rolled to a 63-14 win over Battery Creek High School in Beaufort. Frazier is the third sophomore (Eric Boyles & Anthony Smith Jr.) to win the award this season.

"BOBCATS VIE FOR REGION CROWN"
The atmosphere is loose in practice, on the eve of the biggest game in program history. That won't be the case Friday night at Bluffton Stadium, when the Bobcats (8-0, 3-0 Class 3A-7) play host to the Berkeley Stags (6-2, 3-0) in a game that will determine the region champion. A win not only guarantees the Bobcats the title, but also gives them a coveted home playoff game.

These Bobcats play hard and celebrate just as hard. Will the good times and winning continue for Bluffton (7-0, 2-0) tonight in Beaufort against the winless Battery Creek Dolphins?

AND THE WINNER IS...

ANTHONY SMITH JR.

Smith picked off two passes -- one for a touchdown -- and recovered a fumble late in the fourth quarter of the Bobcats' Friday night win over Cane Bay to keep Bluffton undefeated on the season. The sophomore's efforts earn him this week's BT Game Ball.

The Bluffton defense employs a dizzying, late-game array of chaos to strike down the Cobras of Cane Bay High School. The win extends the Bobcats unbeaten season to seven games.

The BHS quarterback is the public's choice this week for the Bluffton Today Game Ball award. Stoner accounted for more than 70 all purpose yards and a touchdown in the Bobcats' 27-12 win over Lake Marion on Oct. 1 at Bluffton Stadium.

Desmond Jenkins has always proclaimed himself to be king. On Friday night, the Bluffton High School senior officially earned his crown as the Bobcats opened the 2010 Class 3A-7 season with a hard-fought 27-12 win over Lake Marion High School.

Earning homecoming king honors at halftime wasn't enough glory for Jenkins. The speedster took the Gators' first kickoff of the second half and burned 75 yards upfield for the score that essentially locked down the win for Bluffton (6-0, 1-0 Region 3A).

Also finding the end zone for the Bobcats was C.J. Johnson, Corey Stoner and Eric Boyles. Tony Burns helped pace the defense with an interception and fumble recovery in the end zone to stall a Lake Marion (3-3, 0-1) drive.

NINTH LIFE EXCLUSIVE: GATORS @ BOBCATS

Eric Schleicher paints the Bobcat end zone while the team practices before its homecoming game against Lake Marion on Thursday.

The end zone paint was still wet and the national anthem hung heavy in the even wetter Bluffton afternoon sky.

Everywhere you turned, on this, the eve of homecoming, the evidence of burgeoning tradition at Bluffton High School was, well, evident.

If you ask Bobcat head coach Ken Cribb, however, the program’s newfound tradition took root months ago.

Monday’s Class 3A-7 region-opener against Lake Marion High School will be just the second chance the entire Bluffton community gets a chance to see it.

“We’ve been trying to build a tradition of winning, first and foremost,” Cribb said, adding that the pomp and circumstances of homecoming, while at times exciting, can often serve as a distraction to the task at hand.

The Bobcats have had few distractions throughout the non-conference schedule, beating all comers to tie a program record with five wins.
